Snow Homework ~ 13/01/10
Ok so you’ve played out in the snow, thrown a few snowballs around, maybe made a snowman and
now you’re checking the website wondering…..
Anyway, remember the text we were reading yesterday? – Marianne Dreams well
I did a bit of research on it and unbeknownst to me (meaning I didn’t know) this book is a
major piece of work, it’s a classic written in 1958. It’s an amazing
story, they even made an opera about it! (Sorry no major motion picture made yet although
I think that would be a great idea).
The story is fascinating, check the website below for more details, in fact scroll down and click
on the ‘Marianne draws the dream house’ song. It’s interesting to hear how a dream has been turned
into music. Would you agree that the song sounds like the atmosphere created in the text?

Ok here’s the work, (do it on a nice piece of paper please)
Negatives were used to create a feeling of emptiness, nothing to do, nowhere
to go, nothing moved etc. and the author creates a long sense of emptiness by using long
complex sentences. Write a paragraph using the same technique (seven to ten lines) to show what
Marianne sees inside the house. You can start off with ‘No sooner had Marianne finished her
drawing when she began to nod off into a deep sleep.’ Remember try to make it dream like
with the style of your writing.
